What's left behind the scenes
- Kazuo Ishiguro had dreamed for many years of making a remake of Akira Kurosawa's (1910-1998) drama "Ikiru" (1952) in English with Bill Nighy in the lead role. One late evening, he and his wife found themselves in a taxi with Nighy, and Ishiguro proposed the idea to the actor. It turned out that Nighy had not seen Kurosawa's film, but when he did, he enthusiastically agreed to star in the remake.
