A Classic Horror Story

Five travellers share a camper van through southern Italy: Elisa, a young woman heading home to her family, Fabrizio, a film student, Riccardo, a doctor, and a young couple. Driving through the Calabrian countryside, they swerve for an animal carcass lying on the road and crash. The van will not restart, and when they look around, the road they had been following is simply gone. All that remains is dense woodland and a single wooden house, so as night falls the group takes shelter inside it and discovers that they are not alone there.

Roberto De Feo and Paolo Strippoli directed this 2021 Italian horror and mystery film from a screenplay by David Bellini, De Feo and Lucio Besana. It was the first of the directors' three features, coming before The Holy Boy and The Spiral, and it runs 95 minutes. Matilda Lutz plays Elisa, with Francesco Russo, Peppino Mazzotta, Will Merrick, Yuliia Sobol and Alida Baldari Calabria among the cast.

Audience reaction was mixed. On IMDb it holds 5.7 out of 10 across 25,000 votes, and on TMDB 5.8 out of 10 from 1,077 votes. A film critics' rating of 6 out of 10, drawn from 11 reviews, sits close to those scores, so the film drew a similar, moderate response from both professional reviewers and the public.
