What's left behind the scenes

  • A heavily abridged version of 'A Trip to the Moon' was included as a kind of 'prelude' in Michael Anderson's famous film 'Around the World in 80 Days' (1956).
  • Until recently, the film was known without its final segment (the celebratory meeting of the travelers), which was considered lost. However, in 2002, a complete copy of the film was accidentally discovered in France, which not only included this segment but was also hand-colored. This copy was restored and shown at the Pordenone Silent Film Festival in 2003.
  • In 1993, an anonymous collector donated a color version of the film, previously thought irrevocably lost, to the Filmoteca de Catalunya in Barcelona. However, the film was in extremely poor condition. The lengthy restoration process was completed in 2011. The film had its 'second premiere' at the 64th Cannes Film Festival.
  • A remake of this film has survived, staged in 1908 by Segundo de Chomón under the title “A Trip to the Moon” (French: Excursion dans la lune).
  • The film's plot was used in the music video for the song Tonight Tonight by the Smashing Pumpkins, as well as “Heaven For Everyone” by Queen.
  • In 2011, Martin Scorsese's film “Hugo” was released, the plot of which intertwines with the biography of Georges Méliès and his film “A Trip to the Moon.”
  • In 2012, the French duo Air, inspired by the film “A Trip to the Moon,” released the album “Le Voyage dans la Lune,” whose cover features the most famous illustration from the film.
  • In 2021, the first Russian audio description for a silent film was created for this film by students of the School of Digital Accessibility under the direction of Ivan Borshchevsky.
