- The film's poster is based on the cover of Janet Jackson's 1993 album "Janet", created by French photographer Patrick Demarchelier.
- Kiki Kamara, the police officer who takes the phone from the protagonist, is based on Enrique S. Camarena Salazar (1947-1985). He was an agent of the American Drug Enforcement Administration who died in the line of duty in Mexico.
- The character of Laura Guerrero is based on Mexican model Laura Zúñiga. On December 22, 2008, Zúñiga and seven others were arrested on charges of drug trafficking in Zapopan, Jalisco, Mexico.
