What's left behind the scenes

  • The film is based on real events. In the end credits, the filmmakers express their gratitude to David Helfgott.
  • As a child, Geoffrey Rush learned to play the piano and continued to study until the age of 14. Thirty years later, he sat down at the keys again for filming this movie. He played the piano himself in the film.
  • After seeing a concert by pianist David Helfgott, director Scott Young met him and his wife, introduced himself, and said he wanted to make a film based on Helfgott's life story. The Helfgotts agreed to this a year later.
