Peppermint Soda

Peppermint Soda is set in Paris in the autumn of 1963 and follows two sisters, thirteen-year-old Anne Weber and her fifteen-year-old Frédérique, as they return to school after a summer holiday at the beach with their father. The film centres on the differences between them as they grow up: Frédérique is drawn into first romance and early political interests, while Anne, unhappy at being the younger one, often keeps to herself and reads. Their mother raises them largely alone after a divorce, and the sisters' relationships with her and with each other shift over the course of the school year.

Diane Kurys directed the film and wrote the screenplay with Alain Le Henry. It was the first feature she directed; her later directing work includes Arrête ton cinéma ! and The One I Loved. Éléonore Klarwein plays Anne and Odile Michel plays Frédérique, with Anouk Ferjac as their mother and Michel Puterflam as their father.

Released in France in December 1977, the film runs 101 minutes. On IMDb it holds a rating of 7 out of 10 from around 1,900 votes, while on TMDB it has 6.5 out of 10 from a much smaller number of votes. A critics' score of 7.7 out of 10 from eleven reviews places it above the audience ratings recorded on both sites.
