Two performing sisters, Patsy and Jean Deyo, host evenings of entertainment for servicemen at their home and hope to find a larger venue for these gatherings. A sailor named John Dyckman Brown III comes to their aid, helping them set up the canteen and eventually securing a bigger space for their shows. He grows close to Jean, while Patsy's own feelings for him go unspoken, and the situation grows complicated as both sisters find themselves drawn to the same man.
Richard Thorpe directed the film, which came in the middle of a long run of studio assignments that included Tarzan Escapes, Above Suspicion and Cry 'Havoc' before it, and Malaya, Vengeance Valley and Ivanhoe afterward. The screenplay was written by Richard Connell and Gladys Lehman, and Joe Pasternak produced for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. June Allyson plays Patsy and Gloria DeHaven plays Jean, with Van Johnson as John and Tom Drake, Henry Stephenson and Henry O'Neill among the large credited cast of thirty-three.
The film runs just over two hours and mixes comedy, music and romance. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.6 from around a thousand votes, while on TMDB it sits at 5.8 from a much smaller number of votes.
