The Inheritance

Charles Abernathy, a billionaire, invites his four estranged children back to the family home on the eve of his seventy-fifth birthday. He believes that someone, or something, intends to kill him during the night, and he wants his family close so they can protect him. To make sure they take the threat seriously, he ties their inheritances to his survival: if he is found dead by morning, none of them will receive anything.

The horror film was directed by Alejandro Brugués, his fourth feature and the one that followed Satanic Hispanics, released two years earlier. Joe Russo and Chris LaMont wrote the screenplay, and Paul Schiff produced. Bob Gunton plays Charles Abernathy, with Peyton List, Briana Middleton, Rachel Nichols, Austin Stowell and David Walton as members of the family. The production cost an estimated 8 million dollars and runs 84 minutes.

Audience response has been modest. On IMDb, the film holds a rating of 4.7 from roughly 3,500 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 5.8 from a much smaller pool of about 93 ratings. Both figures suggest a limited and divided reaction among viewers rather than a broad success.
