What's left behind the scenes

  • The cartoon features over 180 unique characters – three times more than in any other average animated film.
  • Composer Thomas Newman was initially offered to write the music for this film, but Henry Jackman ultimately took his place.
  • Unlike most animated films, the actors voicing the main characters recorded together in one room, which naturally led to numerous improvisations.
  • For the first two months of writing the screenplay, the main character was Felix (Jack McBrayer).
  • In the early stages of Ralph's development, they wanted to make him 8-bit throughout the entire film, but they decided he wouldn't be cute enough and abandoned the idea.
  • A character named Nicelander was developed, who looked like John Lasseter, but ultimately he didn't make it into the film.
  • At the beginning of production, Disney intended to give cameo roles to Mario and Luigi, but was unable to pay Nintendo a fee for them and asked if they could at least use the characters’ symbolism. As a result, the character Felix received some attributes of Mario: overalls, accompanying sounds from Mario Bros. from the 1980s, and some movements (jumps and spins that were in later games in the series). Furthermore, Mario’s main enemy – the turtle Bowser – appears in the film.
  • The character Calhoun was originally conceived as a male.
  • The character of Vanellope was created in the image of Sarah Silverman herself after reading her autobiography, The Bedwetter: Stories of Courage, Redemption and Pee.
  • In one scene, King Candy uses a classic Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) controller to access the source code of the game Sugar Rush. The combination he enters is known as the Konami Code (up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A, start), and when entered in NES games from Konami, players unlocked special cheats, such as extra lives or the ability to skip levels. Originally, this code was programmed into games to simplify the process of level testing for programmers.
  • The arcade owner, Mr. Litwak, wears a judge's shirt – a nod to Walter Day, the owner of the Twin Galaxies arcade in Ottumwa, Iowa. And while this is unrelated to the film, he appeared in the documentary 'High Score' (2007) and is best known for his appearance in 'King Kong' (2007).
  • The police officers in donut and éclair uniforms in the game Sugar Rush are named Winchell and Duncan. This is a hidden reference to two American donut chains – Winchell’s Donut House and Dunkin’ Donuts.
  • When Ralph rummages through a storage box, he pulls out several items. One is a Super Mushroom from Super Mario Bros., and the other is an exclamation mark from the Metal Gear and Metal Gear Solid series.
  • A well-known musician, Skrillex, will be performing as a DJ at the party celebrating the game's 30th anniversary.
  • SEGA designed Sonic in exchange for Ralph, which is why Wreck-It Ralph "ended up" in the game "Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed".
  • A video game based on the film was created for the Nintendo console, as well as for the Android and iOS platforms.
  • In the pantry scene: the cockroach is a reference to the animated film "WALL-E" (2008).
  • At the Central Station, you can notice a mysterious figure (it’s impossible to tell who it is) reading a newspaper. If you look closely, you can see the Autobot and Decepticon symbols on the newspaper.
  • Sonic the Hedgehog appears several times in the film. When Ralph leaves the Pac-Man game and arrives at the central station, Sonic can be seen on several monitors explaining the rule that, “if you die not in your own game, you won’t respawn, the game is over.” He is also present at the party celebrating the 30th anniversary of the game “Fix-It Felix Jr.” He can be seen immediately after Ralph enters the room. And he appears one last time when Ralph accidentally launches a rescue capsule in the game “Hero’s Duty.” Before flying into “Sugar Rush,” the rescue capsule knocks over a walking Sonic, and he loses all his rings, as usually happens in all Sonic games.
  • SEGA provided the Sonic design in exchange for Ralph, which is why Knuckles “ended up” in the game “Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed”.
