The Madhouse on Castle Street

A man decides to isolate himself from society by locking himself inside a room at a boarding house. He leaves behind a brief note explaining his desire to withdraw from the world, prompting his sister and the other residents of the house to investigate the reason for his strange behavior.

Directed and produced by Philip Saville, this 1963 British television drama was the first in a series of films by the director, followed by Gangsters in 1975 and The Gospel of John in 2003.
