The film was ready for release as early as autumn 2003, but the producers of P.J. Hogan's version of "Peter Pan" forbade its creators from using the original text by J.M. Barrie in the film's dialogue. As a result, an agreement was reached – the release of Mark Forster's film was postponed by a year, but the filmmakers received official permission to mention the writer's novel.
James Barrie, who created the story of Neverland and Peter Pan many years ago, thought about children before his death. In his will, he donated all rights to adapt his creation to a children's hospital located on Great Ormond Street in London.
Johnny Depp specifically studied a Scottish accent for this role.
J.M. Barrie was an extraordinary person, but it is also interesting to note that he stopped growing when he reached a height of 5 feet – just like Peter Pan, who also never grew up.
The film is based on Alan Knee’s play "The Man Who Was Peter Pan".
Jim Carrey was initially considered as a possible candidate for the role of Barrie.
