The Foo Fighters arrive at a mansion in Encino, California, to record their tenth album, hoping the house's storied rock past will give the sessions some atmosphere. The building turns out to be tied to a disturbing chapter of rock history, and Dave Grohl soon finds himself dealing with supernatural forces that put both the record and the band at risk. Grohl, Taylor Hawkins, Nate Mendel, Pat Smear, Chris Shiflett and Rami Jaffee all appear as themselves in this comedy-horror film.

B. J. McDonnell directed, working from a screenplay by Jeff Buhler and Rebecca Hughes, with James A. Rota and John Ramsay producing. It was McDonnell's second feature after Hatchet III in 2013. The budget was modest enough that the worldwide box office of around 3 million dollars represents a reasonable return for a release of this kind, with 25 credited cast members and 105 credited crew.

Audience response has been mixed but not dismissive: on IMDb it sits at 5.6 from roughly 17,000 votes, and on TMDB at 5.8 from 362 votes, putting the two audience measures close together. A film critics' rating of 5.3 from 129 reviews places professional opinion slightly below the audience scores, though the gap is small. At 106 minutes, the film mixes music, comedy and horror, aimed mainly at the band's fans.
