What's left behind the scenes

  • The film was originally scheduled for release on February 28, 2025, but in January, its release was postponed to April 18 after director and screenwriter Isaiah Saxon lost his home in the California wildfires.
  • Just before filming in the Carpathian Mountains, some locations had to be rebuilt because they had been visited by bears. The sets were made of polystyrene foam, which the predators had gnawed on. According to the script, Dasha (Emily Watson) lives in a house on top of a mountain. Throughout the filming period, colored strobe lights and loud music had to be turned on at night on the roof of the house to scare away predators.
  • Director and screenwriter Isaiah Saxon developed the concept of the очи (their appearance and the world in general) for two years. During this time, Saxon managed to assemble a team of specialists who subsequently worked on creating the puppets and special effects, and also gained experience working with specialized computer programs.
  • Some scenes were filmed in Romania, in the mountains where the main character was supposed to live. The weather was sunny, but Saxon wanted Dasha’s house to look gloomy and menacing, so they filmed on sunny days when the house was in shadow.
