- Meryl Streep felt so exhausted by the end of one shooting day that she refused to film another scene. However, director Curtis Hanson managed to persuade her. As a result, the actress was washed off a raft and nearly drowned. Upon returning to shore, Meryl told a pale and trembling Hanson: "From now on, when I say I'm unable to do something, please believe me." Hanson nodded in response without a word.
