What's left behind the scenes
- The character played by Brenda James watches the film "Toxic Avenger" on television with her child.
- Jenna Fischer was not initially in the film's cast (she was married to director James Gunn at the time), but an actor in one of the roles begged to be released from the project, so Gunn changed the character's gender to female, added lines for the character, and cast Fischer. By the time the film was released, Fischer had already gained immense popularity thanks to her role in the series "The Office" (2005-2013).
- Despite other offers, Gunn chose Gold Circle Films and distributor Universal because their management guaranteed him creative freedom and offered to start filming immediately.
- During the filming of the scene where Starla is attacked, actor Michael Rooker injured his arm, but didn't tell anyone about it until the end of a very long shooting day.
- A costume three meters long was created for the scenes with Brenda being pregnant.
