What's left behind the scenes

  • The film was shot in 12 days, and Joss Whedon was simultaneously working on “The Avengers” (2012).
  • In May 2013, Joss Whedon noted in an interview that he remained faithful to the original text of Shakespeare with the exception of the 3rd scene of Act 2, in which Benedict says "if I do not love her, I am a Jew." This line was replaced with another – "if I do not love her, I am a fool."
  • The film was shot in secret. It was only announced that principal photography had finished on October 23, 2011.
  • This film was shot at Joss Whedon's home in Santa Monica, the design of which was done by Whedon's wife, Kai Cole. Cole was so passionate about this project that she convinced Whedon to stay and shoot the film instead of going on vacation for their twentieth anniversary.
  • Joss Whedon wanted to use Steadicam for filming, but due to time and budget constraints, he had to abandon this idea.
  • Anthony Head was offered the role of Leonato, but he was forced to leave the project due to scheduling conflicts. Ultimately, the role went to Clark Gregg.
