Short description

Agent Jack Ryan becomes acting Deputy Director of Intelligence for the CIA when Admiral Greer is diagnosed with cancer. When an American businessman, and friend of the president, is murdered on his yacht, Ryan starts discovering links between the man and drug dealers. As former CIA agent John Clark is sent to Colombia to kill drug cartel kingpins in retaliation, Ryan must fight through multiple cover-ups to figure out what happened and who's responsible.

What's left behind the scenes

The drug lord's mansion, destroyed by an American missile, was a real brick building in Mexico City that the filmmakers happened to buy. The building was actually blown up by a missile.
The attack on the motorcade of government cars was filmed in Mexico City, where the filmmakers recreated a street in Bogotá. Harrison Ford drove the car himself in the final scene.
The character of Ernesto Escobedo in the film was based on Pablo Escobar (1949-1993), the leader of the Medellín Cartel in the 1980s. Escobar did not live to see the completion of the film.
