Clear and Present Danger

Clear and Present Danger follows Jack Ryan as he becomes acting Deputy Director of Intelligence at the CIA after Admiral James Greer falls seriously ill. When a close friend of the President is murdered along with his family, Ryan's investigation reveals the man had ties to Colombian drug cartels. Unknown to Ryan, a covert paramilitary operation has already been sent to Colombia to strike at the cartel leaders, leaving him caught between hidden agendas at the highest levels of government as he tries to uncover the truth.

Phillip Noyce directed the film, the sixth in his directing career and his second adaptation of a Tom Clancy novel featuring Jack Ryan, following Patriot Games. Harrison Ford returns as Ryan, joined by Willem Dafoe as operative John Clark, Joaquim de Almeida as Colonel Felix Cortez, Henry Czerny as CIA official Robert Ritter, Harris Yulin as National Security Advisor James Cutter and Donald Moffat as President Bennett. The screenplay was written by John Milius, Steven Zaillian and Donald Stewart, and Mace Neufeld and Robert Rehme produced.

Made for a budget of 62 million US dollars, the film earned 216 million worldwide, a strong return for a political thriller of its scale. It holds a film critics' rating of 6.9 out of 10 from 48 reviews, slightly above the audience score of 6.6 out of 10 on TMDB from around 1,750 votes.
