The Bone Collector

The Bone Collector centres on Lincoln Rhyme, a former homicide detective and forensic specialist whose career ended when an accident left him paralysed and confined to his bed. When a series of murders in Manhattan leaves investigators without answers, Rhyme is drawn back into police work from his room. A young officer, Amelia Donaghy, is brought in to assist him, and she becomes his presence at crime scenes, gathering evidence and following his instructions while he works from what she reports back to him. The killer leaves deliberate clues at each scene, and the two must interpret them to work out where the next attack will happen.

Phillip Noyce directed the film, the eighth of the sixteen features he has made to date, following The Saint in 1997 and preceding Rabbit-Proof Fence in 2002. Jeremy Iacone wrote the screenplay, and Martin Bregman, Michael Bregman and Louis A. Stroller produced. Denzel Washington plays Rhyme and Angelina Jolie plays Donaghy, with Queen Latifah, Michael Rooker, Michael McGlone and Luis Guzmán in supporting roles. The production involved 48 credited cast members and 243 credited crew.

Made for around 73 million dollars, the film took roughly 151 million dollars worldwide, a return that outweighs its cost. Audiences have received it moderately well: it holds a rating of 6.7 out of 10 on IMDb from around 200,000 votes, and 6.8 out of 10 on TMDB from about 4,000 votes. A critics' rating of 5.4 out of 10 from 92 reviews places it below both audience scores.
