Bully is a crime drama about a group of teenagers in South Florida who plot to kill Bobby Kent, a friend and classmate whose years of emotional, physical and sexual abuse have made him feared and hated by those closest to him. Marty Puccio, Bobby's oldest friend, has endured the worst of it, and when Bobby's violence extends to Marty's girlfriend Lisa Connelly and her friend Ali Willis, the group begins to plan a way out. The film follows how these young people, worn down by cruelty and their own limited options, move toward a decision that will change all their lives.
Larry Clark directed the film, which was released in 2001. It sits between Kids, his 1995 debut, and Ken Park, which followed in 2003, in a run of films concerned with teenage life on the margins. David McKenna and Roger Pullis wrote the screenplay, and the cast includes Brad Renfro as Marty, Rachel Miner as Lisa, Nick Stahl as Bobby, Bijou Phillips as Ali, Michael Pitt as Donny Semenex and Kelli Garner as Heather Swallers. The production had a budget of about 2 million USD.
On IMDb the film holds a rating of 6.9 from around 43,000 votes, and on TMDB a rating of 6.7 from 571 votes. A film critics' rating of 6.4 from 89 reviews puts critical opinion slightly below the audience response.
