This is the first film from Disney to receive a PG rating from the MPAA.
For filming special effects, Disney initially intended to rent Dykstraflex, the first digital motion control system created for the filming of 'Star Wars: Episode IV' (George Lucas, 1977). The conditions set by Lucas's company, Industrial Light & Magic, proved unacceptable, and Disney developed its own Automated Camera Effects System, or ACES, which turned out to be much better than Dykstraflex.
This was the last major effects-heavy project created directly at the studio. Now, they try to outsource all special effects to specialized companies.
