The Juror is a 1996 American crime thriller about Annie Laird, a single mother raising her twelve-year-old son Oliver while trying to build a career as a sculptor. Selected to serve on the jury in the trial of a suspected mafia boss, she initially treats the duty as a routine civic obligation. That changes when a man connected to the defendant approaches her and makes clear that her son's safety depends on the verdict. Pressured into persuading her fellow jurors toward an acquittal, Annie finds herself trapped between the demands of the trial and the threat hanging over her family.
Brian Gibson directed the film, which was written by Ted Tally and produced by Irwin Winkler and Rob Cowan. It followed Gibson's Poltergeist II: The Other Side and What's Love Got to Do with It, and preceded Still Crazy. Demi Moore plays Annie, with Alec Baldwin as the man who coerces her, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Oliver, and supporting turns from Anne Heche, James Gandolfini and Lindsay Crouse.
Produced on a budget of 44 million dollars, the film returned about 23 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.7 from roughly 19,600 votes, and on TMDB a rating of 5.7 from around 460 votes. A critics' rating of 4.5 from 23 reviews places it below both audience scores.
