Short description
Fantastic Four is a 2005 superhero film about four people who gain extraordinary abilities after a space mission goes wrong. Scientist Reed Richards wants to study a cosmic storm to unlock the secrets of human genetics, and he convinces the wealthy industrialist Victor Von Doom to fund the trip. Reed's crew includes his old girlfriend Sue Storm, a genetics researcher; her hot-headed younger brother Johnny, a pilot; and Reed's friend Ben Grimm. Once in space, the group is exposed to radiation that changes them. Reed can stretch his body, Sue can turn invisible, Johnny controls fire, and Ben is transformed into a super-strong creature made of stone. Back on Earth they struggle with their new powers, and they also face a threat connected to their own mission.
Tim Story directed the film, the third of the fifteen features he has made in chronological order, following Taxi and preceding Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. The screenplay is by Michael France and Mark Frost, and the large production credits 104 cast members and 328 crew members. Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, Chris Evans and Michael Chiklis play the four, with Julian McMahon as Victor Von Doom and Hamish Linklater as Leonard.
The film cost about 100 million dollars and took roughly 334 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds 5.7 out of 10 from around 372,000 votes, and on TMDB 5.8 out of 10 from just over 10,000 votes. A critics' rating of 4.7 out of 10 from 217 reviews places it below both audience scores.

- To better get into the role of the Creature, the actor Michael Chiklis read fairy tales to his children while wearing special dentures.
- Julia Stiles, Kate Bosworth, Rachel McAdams, Elizabeth Banks, and Kadi Strickland auditioned for the role of Susan Storm/Invisible Woman. Ultimately, Jessica Alba landed the role.
- Chris Columbus, Peyton Reed, Steven Soderbergh, and Sean Astin were all equally considered for the director's chair.
- The full version of the film has a runtime of 125 minutes.

- This film is by no means the first adaptation of the "Fantastic Four." The previous one was made in 1994, but it has not been released and, most likely, never will be. The sole reason for creating this version was the conditions for obtaining the rights. If the project had not been launched within a certain timeframe, the studio would have permanently lost the rights to adaptation.
