What's left behind the scenes

  • The film is based on Helen Fielding's novel "Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason" (1999).
  • Daniel Cleaver's (Hugh Grant) presence in the second part of the book was minor, almost episodic. But Hugh Grant's character turned out to be so memorable and popular with audiences that his role was significantly expanded for the film.
  • George Clooney was supposed to appear as himself in the film, but it didn't happen.
  • Bridget makes a remark to Mark when his shirt is wet. This is how Colin Firth recreated the famous scene from the miniseries "Pride and Prejudice" (1995), where he appears before Elizabeth in a wet shirt after swimming in the lake.
  • The quotes from the poem that Daniel reads to Bridget on the yacht in Thailand are nothing more than a translation of the famous epic poem “Phra Aphai Manee” about a prince-hero who, among other feats, courts many princesses and takes them as wives. The cited passage tells of Phra Aphai Manee’s courtship of his eldest wife, Suwan Mali.
  • On the plane, Jed and Shezzer are reading the book “The Beach” by Alex Garland, which also partially takes place in Thailand.
  • The film is based on the novel "Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason" (1999) by Helen Fielding.
