Tasos Zografos was born in Livadia in 1926. He came to Athens in 1940, lived through the war and the occupation. In '47 he enrolled at the School of Fine Arts, but did not attend due to the events of the Civil War. From '46 he began working in set design, never as a painter, never as a painter. During his years of exile in Makronissos he did set designs for many theatrical works. In '50 he returned to Athens and worked as a set designer at the Free Theatre. The National Theatre had excluded him for his "social" views. In '53 he began to do sets in small theatres. He established himself as a set designer in '55 with his work on N. Koundouros' film "The Dragon". Since then he has done set design and costumes for 200 films. He has designed over 90 plays in the Theater and many TV series. He has received 5 awards for his work from the Thessaloniki Film Festival, one state award and 2 from Greek Television. As a painter, he held 8 solo exhibitions and took part in many group exhibitions in Greece and abroad. His works are in many collections and galleries. He has written essays and studies on scenography in art magazines and newspapers, fairy tales and a play for children. Tasos Zografos died in April 2011 at the age of 85.© ACMODASI, 2010-2025
