Debu Bose was a highly respected Indian actor and former classical dancer, best remembered for his extensive and influential work in the Odia film industry. Born into a Kayastha family in Odisha during the British Raj, his passion for the performing arts began early in his life. While pursuing his college degree in Berhampur, he became an active member of the Ganjam Kala Parishad and frequently participated in various regional dance dramas. Deeply drawn to the art of dance, he went on to receive formal classical training under the tutelage of the legendary Odissi dancer Kelucharan Mohapatra, laying a strong artistic foundation for his future career.

Bose's entry into the entertainment industry initially stemmed from his dance background. He started his career as a dancer and assistant choreographer in the 1974 film Mana Akasha, directed by Nitai Palit. He officially made his acting debut in the 1980 film Tapasya and quickly transitioned into one of Ollywood's most prolific and recognizable character actors. Over a remarkably long career spanning four decades, he acted in more than 120 films, delivering memorable performances in beloved movies such as Samay Kheluchhi Chaka Bhaunri, Ki Heba Sua Posile, Pua Moro Kala Thakura, Phula Chandana, Kaberi, Sahari Bagha, and Suna Chadhei. Beyond his cinematic achievements, he remained deeply committed to the stage, actively associating with the regional theater group Diganta and directing several successful plays. His final film appearance was in the 2014 movie Raasta.

After a long and illustrious life dedicated to the arts, Debu Bose passed away at the age of 75 on August 22, 2018, while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Hyderabad. His death, which resulted from a cardiac arrest following a history of heart-related illnesses, was met with widespread grief. The Ollywood film fraternity and his countless fans deeply mourned his passing, honoring his immense contributions to the screen and stage, and dubbing his departure as an irreparable loss to Odia cinema and culture.
