Raey Ang

Born and raised in Singapore, Raey dreamt of being a filmmaker at 15 years old and has been chasing that dream ever since. She graduated on the Dean’s List from York University with her Bachelor of Fine Arts (Hons.) in Film Production, where she cultivated her passion for storytelling through visual art and sound design. Her films reflect her belief that sound is 51% of film, often featuring a distinct soundtrack paired with visually compelling storytelling.

Raey’s films have been showcased at various film festivals, earning accolades such as the Merit Award at the Canada Shorts Film Festival for her short film AXIS (2015), and Outstanding Achievement in Best Director for Anna (2021) at the World Film Carnival Singapore. Her most notable film is Reprise (2019), winning Best Experimental Film at the Florence Film Awards and Toronto Shorts International Film Festival, the largest short film festival in Canada. Her achievements as a director include Best Director (Female) at the Independent Shorts Awards and Best Indie Filmmaker at the Global Film Festival Awards. Her latest film, Clouded (2024) has received an Honorable Mention at Experimental Forum 2025 and Official Selection at the BIDEODROMO International Experimental Film and Video Festival in Bilbao — a significant milestone, with few Singaporean filmmakers ever featured in its program.

Her other hobbies are writing, watching films and taking Polaroids. She is also an avid Formula 1 fan, with one of her next career goals to work at Dawn Apollo Films when it has Lewis Hamilton’s full attention (so after he wins his 8th F1 Championship title.) Raey’s goals for 2026 include spearheading the inaugural BIDEODROMO x Southeast Asia cross-cultural film festival exchange, slated for September 2026.
