He served as White House Press Secretary for six years under Presidents Ronald Reagan and George H. W. After his government career, Fitzwater worked as a writer-consultant on The West Wing and authored several books, including the novel Esther’s Pillow, based on his family history in rural Kansas. He has been married to Melinda Andrews since January 23, 1999.
