Hudson Smith, born 2010 in New Zealand, is an emerging filmmaker from Cairns, Australia. For his mind-bending short film The Insomniac, he managed the entire production alone, serving as the writer, director, editor, cinematographer, and sole actor. The film won Best Year 9–10 Narrative at the 2025 Understory High Film Festival. It also earned the audience-voted Reel Futures ShoutOut Award before screening at the prestigious Port Shorts Film Festival.

For his new film Sandy, based on the murders of Robert Domingos and Linda Edwards, Hudson retains the same hands-on approach by writing, filming, editing, directing, and acting in the true-story thriller. This time, however, he brings on board two new young actors, Catherine Hurdley and Hans Kawi, to recreate the horrific 1963 murders.
