Short description

Twenty years after modern civilization has been destroyed, Joel, a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle Ellie, a 14-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal, heartbreaking journey, as they both must traverse the United States and depend on each other for survival.

What's left behind the scenes

Gerard Butler and Hugh Jackman were considered for the role of Joel.
The eponymous video game was named the best game of 2013.
Maisie Williams was one of the contenders for the role of Ellie.
In the video game, fungal spores are airborne, whereas in the series, the spores were replaced by tendrils. According to Neil Druckmann, this decision was made to provide greater authenticity.
The producers considered 105 actresses for the role of Ellie; they wanted to find someone who could convincingly portray a character who is resourceful, street-smart, and likely hot-tempered. After watching a recording made by Bella Ramsey, the show's creators spoke with David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, the showrunners of 'Game of Thrones' in which she had appeared, and subsequently gave her the role.
At the 8-minute mark of the 6th episode of the 1st season, Joel wraps a boot with duct tape. He begins wrapping it in one direction, but when the shot cuts to a close-up, he is wrapping the tape from the opposite direction.

In the 8th episode of the first season, at the 37-minute mark, Ellie, sitting in a cage, kicks the food tray brought to her, scattering its contents. A few seconds later, the tray is back in its original position, although no one is seen moving it back into place on screen.
