What's left behind the scenes
- Michaela Coel (director, writer, and actress who played Arabella) turned down a $1 million deal with Netflix because the terms of the agreement would have caused her to lose the rights to the series.
- In the first few episodes of the project, the main character wears a pink wig. This specific wig was chosen to contrast with Arabella's skin tone, thereby serving as an indicator of her fragile psychological state.
- Michaela Coel wrote a total of 191 drafts of the script before she was completely satisfied with it.
- Michaela Coel later admitted that she suffered sexual assault while working on the second season of the project 'Chewing Gum' (2015-2017), and it was this experience that prompted her to create the series 'I May Destroy You' (2020).
