Short description
Grandpa Slava is the oldest of the Midland vampire family. They live quietly. They live by the law. They live the unremarkable life of an ordinary Russian family and they never kill humans – ever. Although, of course, everyone knows they drink blood. And when some lifeless corpses are found in a birch grove near Smolensk... their peaceful life falls under threat.

What's left behind the scenes
- In the pilot episode, filmed for the competition program of the 'Pilot' festival in 2018, Grandpa Slava was played by Yuri Stoyanov. Subsequently, the role went to Mikhail Efremov. Following a car accident involving the latter, it was decided to resume filming with Yuri Stoyanov. Principal photography began in October 2020.
- Five different types of artificial blood were supplied to the set for various purposes. One was for the props department; this blood leaves no traces on parquet or other surfaces and is easily washed away.
- The second type of blood was used by makeup artists: it stays on the skin and looks natural on camera. The third was intended for costumes, as it could be removed from fabric without much effort.
- Two other types of fake blood were intended for the actors to drink on camera. It turned out that the special thick beverage, which is safe for the mucous membranes and stomach, tasted very sweet. In films, it is used in scenes where blood flows from an actor's mouth, but these are usually split-second episodes. However, the vampire family from Smolensk had to drink blood on camera quite frequently, sometimes for several takes in a row. At the actors' request, the prop masters brewed a different kind of blood using a secret recipe—one that was less sweet and more like a kissel.
- Custom-made fangs were created for the actors playing the members of the vampire family. Molds were taken at a dental clinic, after which the props were crafted to match the color of their teeth. These had a significant advantage over standard mouthguards: because the fangs were anatomically fitted, they had almost no effect on the actors' diction.
