Keira Knightley was originally planned for the lead role, but since filming took place during the coronavirus pandemic, the actress declined the part, and Claire Danes was invited instead.
Screenwriter and author of the novel that served as the literary source for the script, Sarah Perry, appeared on screen in a supporting role. She is the one in the blue coat and skirt walking in London behind Tom Hiddleston, who plays Will.
