What's left behind the scenes

At the time of its release, it was the series with the highest number of special effects.
In many scenes, an image of Earth is visible, with the African continent located in the upper left corner. This is the so-called 'Blue Marble'—one of the most famous photographs in history. It was taken on December 7, 1972, by the astronauts of the Apollo 17 spacecraft.
In one of the episodes, host Carl Sagan is shown during the creation of a model of the Library of Alexandria.
Filming of the series lasted a year, during which the crew traveled the world, visiting, among other places, India, Egypt, Italy, Cambodia, France, Alaska, Mexico, and the USA.
