What's left behind the scenes
- The events depicted in the series are reminiscent of the Mountain Meadows massacre of 1857 (referring to the slaughter of a caravan of settlers traveling from Arkansas to California by the Mormon militia).
- Director and producer Peter Berg decided to film the series in the spirit of Sidney Pollack's western 'Jeremiah Johnson' (1972). Location filming lasted 137 days, while studio filming took 3 days.
- The series shows the Mormons attempting to buy Fort Bridger, although in reality, this occurred two years before the events depicted in the show.
