Short description
On 26 November 1983, six armed men break into the Brink's-Mat security depot, stumbling across gold bullion worth £26m.
Seasons
What's left behind the scenes
- Seven people were killed in the shooting, all of whom were linked in one way or another to the robbery or the subsequent laundering of the loot. Several people went missing, so the actual number of victims may have been higher.
- The Brink's-Mat robbery took place at the Heathrow International Trading Estate in London on November 26, 1983. Cash, gold bars, and diamonds totaling £26 million (or £101 million in 2023 prices) were stolen. The gold bars were owned by Johnson Matthey Bankers Ltd, which declared bankruptcy a year later.
