What's left behind the scenes
- Many characters in the miniseries speak with a Scottish accent because the workers of the steel plant (opened in the 1950s) were originally from Scotland, and this pronunciation persisted in the speech of their descendants through the first, second, and even third generations (the residents of the town during the time period depicted).
- The series is based on the story of female workers at a former steel plant in the town of Corby (Northamptonshire) who were poisoned by toxic waste in the 1990s. The legal proceedings concluded in 2010 with the partial settlement of the claims. This scandal is sometimes referred to as the case of the 'British Erin Brockovich' (referring to the famous human rights lawyer and environmental activist).
- Jodie Whittaker and Amy Lou Wood are familiar with the characters they played—Susan McIntyre and Tracy Taylor, respectively.
