What's left behind the scenes
- The series was filmed in Iceland, which has strict laws regulating the import of horses for filming. The actors were forced to ride Icelandic horses, which are characterized by their small stature.
- Shortly before filming began, James Norton fell off a horse and suffered an injury.
- William the Conqueror, Duke of Normandy, was played by Nikolaj Coster-Waldau. James Norton had vied for the role, but due to the terms of his contract with HBO for the series 'The Unusuals' (2021-2023), he was forced to play Harold Godwinson, as he was only permitted to play characters who were destined to die soon.
