What's left behind the scenes
- Mae Martin, who played Alex and served as a writer for the project, stated that they drew inspiration from memories of their own youth. Their friend Nicole (who later became a consultant for the series) had also been in a similar institution during her teenage years. At one time, one of the writers involved in the project also attended a school for troubled teens.
