What's left behind the scenes
- Eighteen of the twenty-one novellas from this Enid Blyton series were adapted for the show. The rights to two of the three remaining stories were held by the British Film Institute, and the third simply did not fit into the tight filming schedule.
- Due to the show's great success, the producers wanted to extend it for a third season, but they met with total opposition from the author's heirs, who were categorically against plans to add entirely original episodes unrelated to the books.
- Harry Russell, who landed the role of Dick, initially auditioned for the role of Julian's older brother.
- The German television channel, which played a major role in financing the project, insisted that at least one of the key roles be played by a German actor. A compromise was reached when the role of George was given to Michelle Gallagher, whose grandmother was from Germany.
