What's left behind the scenes
- Old English is used in the series. The screenwriters wrote the spells in English, and linguistic consultants translated them into Old English.
- During the filming of one of the scenes, a French stuntman suffered a broken rib due to the use of a prop spear.
- In the first episode of season 3, while Merlin is under the bed, he gets his face dirty from a mandrake. In the next shot, as he watches Morgana, his face is clean again.
- It is claimed that Nathaniel Parker agreed to appear in the series because his children were big fans of the show.
- Katie McGrath speaks in her native Irish accent in the series, while Irishman Colin Morgan adopts an English accent. McGrath almost lost her role because the producers didn't like the idea of having two actors with Irish accents in the cast. She was told that she would either have to master an English accent or lose the part—unless, of course, Morgan failed to master the English accent himself.
- Colin Morgan often had to sit in the shade or go indoors between takes to avoid looking pale in one scene and tanned in the next.
- In several episodes, Sarah Parish, who played the troll, ate from plates that were actually swarming with worms.
- The series features the Château de Pierrefonds, located approximately a hundred kilometers from Paris. In the eighteenth century, like many other castles in France, it was partially destroyed.
- The series 'Smallville' (2001-2011) had a significant influence on the project. According to the producers, it was this show that gave them the idea to let Merlin see Camelot 'before its golden age'.
- It took about four hours to apply Colin Morgan's makeup.
- The jewelry, talismans, and symbols shown in the series were based on artifacts exhibited at the Jorvik Viking Centre in York, England.
- Rupert Young, who played Sir Leon, was originally supposed to appear in only one episode, but the audience liked him so much that he began appearing periodically, and eventually became a series regular in the fourth season.
