Short description
Heidi Bergman is a caseworker at Homecoming, a Geist Group facility helping soldiers transition to civilian life. Years later she has started a new life, living with her mother and working as a waitress, when a Department of Defense auditor questions why she left the Homecoming facility. Heidi quickly realizes that there's a whole other story behind the story she's been telling herself.

What's left behind the scenes
- Using a trained pelican in the filming cost the studio approximately $50,000.
- The fictional company that launched the 'Homecoming' program is called 'Geist'. From German, this translates as 'ghost' as well as 'mind' or 'intellect'.
- In the second episode of the first season, the pineapple scene featuring characters played by Jeremy Allen White and Sam Marra was reshot so many times that the costume designers ran out of clean shirts for Sam Marra, as a fresh one was required for every take. As a result, filming had to be paused to wash and dry several more shirts.
- The series uses different aspect ratios—16:9 for scenes set in 2018 and 1:1 for scenes set in 2022.
- In the present-day scenes, the aspect ratio is narrower, symbolizing Heidi's fragmented memories of the 'Coming Home' program. Later, as her memory returns upon seeing a bird, the screen expands as she begins to understand more.
- In Season 1, Gloria and Walter speak in a Haitian dialect.
