Short description

In the near future a new phenomenon starts happening all over the world with powerful flashes of light occurring in the ocean and people from the past mysteriously reappearing. Called "beforeigners," these people come from three separate time periods: the Stone Age, the Viking era and late 19th century. A couple of years later, Alfhildr – who comes from the Viking Age – has to partner up with a burned-out police officer, Lars Haaland, to investigate the murder of a beforeigner. The pair begins to unravel a larger conspiracy behind the origin of the mysterious mass arrivals.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Alfhildr's family name is 'Enginsdottir', which translates to 'No one's daughter'. This is a reference to the fact that she was abandoned as an infant.
  • Krista Kosonen from Finland (who played Alfhildr) did not know Norwegian, and it was not easy for her to memorize her lines with the correct pronunciation.
  • During the opening credits of each episode, a shot is visible showing the graffiti "Beforeigners go home" on a wall, which is essentially a call for them to get out. Below this is another inscription—"Ok, men vordan?" This is a response in Norwegian containing a mistake, which translates as: "Gladly, but how?"
  • Stig Henrik Hoff plays Torir Hund, a well-known and highly controversial figure in Norwegian history. For many years, Hund was considered a villain for organizing the rebellion against King Olaf Haraldsson, or Olaf II the Holy, and the subsequent murder of the monarch. Since the 19th century, however, he has begun to be revered as one of the greatest national heroes and a symbol of resistance to authoritarian government. He is viewed as such primarily in northern Norway, where Hund was from and where the population is skeptical of political power emanating from the southern part of the country. A monument to him has been erected on his native island of Bjarkøy.
