What's left behind the scenes

  • It was originally intended that the character voiced by Alex Brightman (Sir Pentious) would be the villain of the project's pilot episode and would not appear on screen again. However, the audience liked him so much that director and writer Vivienne Medrano rewrote the script and made him the second guest to check into the Hazbin Hotel.
  • Sir Pentious is a Victorian-era inventor and supervillain who died in London in 1888. The cause of death was never established, but it is possible that Sir Pentious's death was related to one of his inventions.
  • Alastor, voiced by Amir Talai, wears shoes with soles shaped like deer hooves. This may be a reference to cow-hoof soles, which bootleggers actually wore in their time to deceive the police.
  • The pilot episode of the animated series, "That's Entertainment," was released on YouTube in 2019. Vivienne Medrano had been working on the episode since 2014 with the help of freelance animators, financing their work through her subscribers on the Patreon platform.
  • After the release of the pilot episode, Vivienne Medrano began working on the spin-off "Helluva Boss," releasing its first season on her YouTube channel in 2020. The second season of the spin-off began releasing in 2022, creating a production paradox: by the time the original series was released, the spin-off already had two seasons.
  • Alastor was a radio host and serial killer from New Orleans, Louisiana. He died in 1933 when he was accidentally shot after being mistaken for a deer. This detail explains his deer-like appearance in the pilot episode and the prequel, not to mention the 'X' mark that appears on his forehead when Alastor uses his abilities.
