Saints and Soldiers

Set in the winter of 1944 during the Battle of the Bulge, this war drama follows a small group of American soldiers who survive a German massacre of prisoners in the Belgian woods. Led by Corporal Nathan Greer, the survivors find themselves cut off behind enemy lines without weapons or supplies. They encounter a British intelligence officer carrying information that could save many Allied lives, and the group must cross hostile territory to deliver it before the Germans hunting them can stop them.

Ryan Little directed the film, his first feature, from a screenplay by Geoffrey Panos and Matt Whitaker. Corbin Allred plays Greer, with Alexander Polinsky, Kirby Heyborne, Larry Bagby, Peter Holden and Ethan Vincent among the main cast. Little returned to the subject years later with Saints and Soldiers: Airborne Creed and Saints and Soldiers: The Void, two further films in the series.

Released in 2003, the film had a worldwide box office of about 1 million USD, a modest return for an independent production. On TMDB it holds a rating of 6.3 out of 10 from roughly 320 votes, while a critics' rating of 6.5 out of 10 reflects 35 reviews, showing that professional reviewers responded somewhat more positively than the general audience.
