Chandu Champion tells the story of Murlikant Petkar, an Indian athlete whose path to sporting achievement runs through several disciplines and a severe wartime injury that left him with lasting damage from bullets. What begins as a childhood dream, stirred in the early 1950s by the public celebration of an Indian Olympic medalist, becomes a long pursuit of excellence that no physical setback could end. His persistence eventually brought India its first individual gold medal at the Paralympic Games, in 1972, though recognition at home came only decades later.
The film is a biographical sports drama directed by Kabir Khan, who wrote the screenplay with Sumit Arora and Sudipto Sarkar, and produced it with Sajid Nadiadwala and Firuzi Khan. It is the sixth feature Khan directed, arriving after 83. Kartik Aaryan plays Petkar, heading a cast of 22 credited performers that includes Vijay Raaz, Bhuvan Arora, Rajpal Yadav, Yashpal Sharma and Aniruddh Dave. Made on a budget of about 2 million dollars, it runs 143 minutes.
Audience response has been warmer than the critical one. On IMDb it holds 7.8 from roughly 36,000 votes, and on TMDB 7.2, while the critics' rating stands at 5.9 from 15 reviews. The gap suggests a film that has connected more strongly with general viewers than with reviewers, with the large IMDb sample pointing to a substantial and broadly favourable audience.
