What About Bob?

Bob Wiley is a man burdened by numerous fears and anxious habits, and he becomes the patient of psychiatrist Dr. Leo Marvin just as Marvin is preparing to leave for a family vacation. Marvin's self-help book has made him a recognized authority, and he believes his methods can help Bob. What he does not anticipate is that Bob, unwilling to be separated from the doctor, will track him down at his summer home in New Hampshire and settle in among the family, who take a liking to the visitor. As Bob's presence wears on, the composed professional begins to unravel while his patient thrives.

Frank Oz directed the film from a screenplay by Tom Schulman, with Laura Ziskin producing. It arrived in 1991 as Oz's fifth feature, following Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, and stands between that film and Housesitter in his filmography. Bill Murray plays Bob opposite Richard Dreyfuss as Dr. Marvin, with Julie Hagerty, Charlie Korsmo, Kathryn Erbe and Tom Aldredge in supporting roles.
