- Gemma Arterton suggested Saoirse Ronan for the role of Eleanor because she was impressed by her performance in "Hanna."
- Before filming began, Saoirse Ronan took piano lessons for 12 weeks, and she genuinely played a complex Beethoven sonata on camera. The actress practiced on a rented grand piano for two hours a day.
