Short description

Detective James Knight is assigned at the last minute to work the Independence Day shift, expecting a quiet holiday. Instead, he is drawn into a race against time to stop a disturbed ambulance worker who has stolen a police uniform and a service weapon. Pretending to be an officer and acting as a self-appointed vigilante, the man is convinced the world has spiraled out of control and that he alone must restore order, and his plans threaten the city's celebrations and reach dangerously close to Knight's own home. As the festivities approach, Knight and his colleagues try to track him down before he carries out his attack.

The film is directed by Edward Drake, who also wrote the screenplay, and it is the third entry in his Detective Knight series, following Rogue and Redemption, both released in 2022, and arriving before Guns Up and The Ascent in his later filmography. Bruce Willis leads the cast as James Knight, with Lochlyn Munro, Jimmy Jean-Louis, Jack Kilmer, Willow Shields and Dina Meyer in supporting roles. Produced by Corey Large and Randall Emmett on a budget of about 2 million dollars, it was released in January 2023 and runs 92 minutes.

Reception has been modest. On IMDb the rating stands at 3.4 out of 10 from more than 1,300 votes, while on TMDB it is 5.3 out of 10 from under 200 votes. A critics' rating of 5.7 out of 10 from 12 reviews places it higher than the IMDb audience score but close to the TMDB figure.

What's left behind the scenes

  • In the bank robbery scene that opens the film, the operator's reflection can be seen in the glass door.
  • Two ambulances were used in the chase scene: one for filming the interior of the vehicle and another for the exterior shots.
  • The final film of Bruce Willis's career, after which he retired from acting following diagnoses of aphasia (a local loss or disorder of previously acquired language skills, affecting speech production or comprehension while hearing remains intact) and dementia.
  • The film was shot in 7 days.
