Lost Souls

Maya Larkin, a devout Catholic who once survived a possession herself, assists a priest with exorcisms and becomes convinced that a conspiracy is preparing for Satan to take human form. She believes the target is Peter Kelson, a New York crime journalist who has built his career on the idea that violent criminals are simply mentally disturbed and that nothing supernatural is at work. To stop the prophecy, Maya must persuade a man without faith that his life is in danger.

The film is a horror thriller directed by Janusz Kamiński, better known as a cinematographer. It was written by Pierce Gardner and produced by Meg Ryan and Nina R. Sadowsky. Winona Ryder plays Maya, with Ben Chaplin as Peter. Sarah Wynter, Anna Gunn, Philip Baker Hall and John Hurt appear in supporting roles. It runs 97 minutes.

Released in October 2000, the film had a budget of 50 million dollars and took about 31 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds a rating of 4.8 from roughly 12,000 votes, and on TMDB 5.1 from around 208 votes. A critics' rating of 3.7 from 92 reviews places it below even those audience scores.
