Immaculate

An American woman of faith named Cecilia arrives at a secluded convent in the Italian countryside, where she is welcomed warmly and given a new role within the religious community. Her time there takes a disturbing turn when she becomes pregnant despite remaining a virgin. The other residents treat the pregnancy as a miracle, but Cecilia comes to suspect that her new home conceals a dark secret and that the child she carries may not be what the convent claims. She begins looking for a way out.

Michael Mohan directed the film, his third feature after Pink Grapefruit (2015) and The Voyeurs (2021), from a screenplay by Andrew Lobel. Sydney Sweeney plays Cecilia and also produced alongside Teddy Schwarzman and David Bernad. The cast includes Álvaro Morte as Father Sal Tedeschi, Simona Tabasco as Sister Mary, Benedetta Porcaroli as Sister Gwen, Giorgio Colangeli as Cardinal Franco Merola and Dora Romano as Mother Superior. It is an Italian and American co-production.

Released in March 2024, the film runs 89 minutes and was made for about 9 million dollars, earning roughly 35 million worldwide. On IMDb it holds 5.8 out of 10 from around 60,000 votes, while on TMDB it has 6.2 out of 10 from a much smaller pool of about 1,700 votes. A critics' rating of 6.2 out of 10 from 212 reviews places it close to the audience scores.
